All Things French Press
I constantly get questions about how we make our coffee from home. Daniel & I dabble back & forth between French Press & Mocha Pot, but for me the French Press is the clear winner. Yes, it’s manual so it’s more “work,” but it’s so much more rewarding. You’re able to measure the exact amount of ground coffee beans, pour in how much or how little water wanted, time how long you want it to actually brew for & then the best (most fun) part - press down the plunger! (Slowly, of course.)
Some useful information about French Press coffee:
Once you push down the lever, pour all the coffee out. The more you let it soak, the weaker it becomes.
A “3 cup French Press” doesn’t actually make 3 whole cups. It equates to European cups. (V annoying.) So pretty much 3 cups = 12 ounces. And 8 cups = 34 ounces. So on & so forth. The Pottery Barn mugs we use are 15 ounces which is why we bought an 8 cup French Press! (That’s the standard size.)
Coarse grounds are ideal for a French Press. And try to have them grounded as close as you can to using them!
As far as the coffee beans go, if you haven’t tried La Colombe yet you are really missing out!! Each of their beans are incredible. If you like light roasts our favorites are “aurora” & “congo” & “java.” I have an ongoing code with La Colombe: “mollyweinberg15off” — it’ll save you 15% off the total order plus free shipping on orders over $30!!
Okay now let’s get down to business. I searched dozens of sites & hundreds of options & narrowed it down to the top 6 French Presses! Cheers to your future morning brews!
