Bar Full of Flavor
Hemingway's Cafe
Who knew this college bar has so many #eeeats
Hemingway's Cafe is a typical college bar -- packed on syllabus week, beer flowing on thirsty Thursday's, and wall to wall over the weekend nights. What isn't so typical is their menu full of yummy bar food and very "collegesque," signature cocktails!
I headed into Hemingway's on a Wednesday night with two co-workers during syllabus week and we waited about 10 minutes for a table to be cleared at 9:30pm.
Seated in the back room it was like a whole different universe than the main bar. Full bright lights, wood panel walls, and dare I say, carpet! Within three minutes a lovely waitress came over, greeted us, took our drink order, and explained that more than 50% of the food menu was ALL $5. Nachos, burgers, grilled cheeses, salads, and more! This wasn't a joke.
We each got something different to try!
I pretty much devoured the Pittsburgh grilled cheese. It's apparently a classic in the 412. I thought it was going to be nasty, but the sauerkraut with the cheese was suprisingly delish! (Let's just say we needed a serious workout the next morning to work off all those carbs, but still.) The tots were good, but so greasy (perfect for a drunk 1am stop). And the crabby grilled cheese looked amaze and my co-worker was a huge fan. (I personally didn't taste because #kosher.) It was unanimous though -- those sweet potato tater tots >>>>
Since my co-workers and I were not in the mood for a sugar induced hangover the next morning we opted out of Hemingway's signature shot cocktails. This bar is known for gummy worms in their shot pitchers. Click here to see what I mean. By the time we left, around 11:15am the main bar, back room, and side room were buzzing with undergrads chugging pitchers of vodka, triple sec, sprite, and gummy worms of all sorts.
Next time we're in black and yellow country we'll try the sugary dranks....maybe..........probably not ;)
