2019 TPG Awards
Imagine taking a step onto the Intrepid to launch yourself into the chic future. That’s exactly what I did this past Monday night thanks to the Points Guy Awards. Brian, his team, and hundreds of travel elite boarded the USS Intrepid that now acts as a museum for one of the most stylish, fabulous, entertaining award shows to date.
The evening began at 7pm sharp with a check-in area modeled after an elegant airport check-in, a dazzling red carpet, endless alcohol, tasty bites being passed left and right, and Bravo stars leading the way. If you’re anything like me, you too would have googly eyes over D’Andra Simons, Dorinda Medley, and Margaret Josephs.
Not into Bravo? That’s fine as long as you’re into FUN. Because Heather McMahan and Claudia Oshry (aka girl with no job) came fully loaded with jokes while looking snatched AF.
Heather opened the award show that began promptly at 8:15pm impersonating Brian Kelly in last year’s suit jacket covered in Chase Sapphire Reserve credit cards and a posh, short blonde wig. They were practically twins!

One of the biggest announcements during the awards was the impressive presentation of TPG App launching 2020. For lack of better words, it’s gonna be DOPE. And don’t fret, they’re not trying to become the next hotels.com where you book in app. Instead, the app will provide content, information, guidance all in one place. Brilliant if you ask me!
There were lots of special guests, too. Some whose stories even made me tear. Beverly Bass who was the third ever female pilot with American. Her life’s journey was made into a Broadway musical, “Come From Away” and one of the most popular songs from the show was performed live at the awards. And later on Katherine Johnson’s life story was shared for those who didn’t already know. Safe to say this 101 year old woman is a true genius. Mathematician and computer scientist whose calculations were exact and NEEDED when it came to the success of landing on the Moon. And let’s not forget the insane performance by Carly Rae Jepson. Call me maybe!! Seems as though this year’s awards were really honing in on women’s successes and I.AM.HERE.FOR.IT.
Although I’ve personally read plenty of content from TPG site, I watch their IG stories consistently, and I cling to Brian’s every recommendation, there was NOTHING like meeting and hearing Brian in person. He is inspiring, kind, empathetic, and TALL. His arms stretch so long, he’s the perfect person to snap a selfie! (See below for proof☺️)
The real question is, will Heather wear the winning 2019 Amex jacket to open the show in 2020? Only time will tell!
